How to beat and catch Wumpo Botan in Palworld

An adorable and deadly Wumpo variant.

Palworld‘s Wumpo Botan is adorable, even if it looks like a giant walking Christmas tree. Not only can it be ridden into battle like a giant, but it makes for a great candidate for Base life. Here’s how to beat, catch, and breed the Pal.

Beating Wumpo Botan Field Boss in Palworld

The most straightforward method of getting Wumpo Botan is by capturing the Field Boss Wumpo Botan, Guardian of the Grassy Fields.

This level 38 boss is located on the western coast of one of the far-right islands, highlighted below.

This boss is pretty powerful, so you’ll want to be prepared. Here’s the recommended minimum equipment:

  • Metal Armor and Metal Helm
  • Mega Shield (although Giga Shield would be prefered)
  • Uncommon Crossbow (although a Handgun would be prefered)

You will be letting your Pals do most of the dirty work for you here.

Bring a team of Pals no less than level 30. Wumpo Botan has a high defense, so make sure you’ve got some powerful Fire-type Pals, although that’s not necessary if you’ve got Pals of any type that are strong enough.

If your Pals aren’t powerful enough, then they’ll have a hard time piercing Wumpo’s defenses. The likes of Kingpaca, Felbat, or Katress are the power status I’d recommend bringing. Even low-powered Fire-types, like Foxparks, won’t fare well, even if their level is on par.

As long as you keep dodging and withdrawing your Pals to evade powerful strikes, you’ll be fine. Be on the lookout for Wumpo Botan’s Grass Tornado and underground attacks, so observe its body language for the telltale signs.

If you want to catch it, bring around ten Hyper Spheres as long as your Capture Level is at least level 4. Ultra Spheres are the better option, however.

When it’s low health, withdraw your Pal and use your weapon to score body shots to bring it as close to death as possible. Then, keep trying to catch it.

Upon defeat or capture, the Wumpo Botan may drop:

  • 1 Ancient Technology Point (upon first kill)
  • Ancient Civilization Parts
  • Precious Pelts
  • Beautiful Flower
  • Tomato Seeds
  • Lettuce Seeds

Catching Wumpo Botan in Palworld

Instead of fighting the Wumpo Botan boss in Palworld, you may want to capture a regular one. This Pal spawns only one place, and it’s not exactly easy pickings.

The Wumpo Botan spawns in Wildlife Reserve No. 2, the private island just above the volcanic island to the lower right of the map. Here, all sorts of secret Pals will be walking around. Numerous PDIF officers will be guarding the island, and if you get spotted, they’ll keep harassing you until you are dead.

You’ll want a Pal you can swim or fly with to access the island. Keep a low profile by crouching when you reach it. Being noticed and engaging in fights with Pals won’t trigger the PDIF. Just be careful not to stray into their line of sight.

Bring Fire-type Pals to get this fight over and done with as quickly as you can. You really don’t want to stay for long on an island where you’re not welcome.

If you do end up getting caught, then flee the island. If you can make it to land, then your inventory will be easier to grab once you die. Unfortunately, there is no way to get the PDIF off your tail, as they’ll keep spawning until they get you. Don’t worry, there is no penalty for dying at the hands of the PDIF.

As long as you get your Wumpo Botan, the chase will be worth it. Make sure to bring Ultra Spheres to cut your waiting time dramatically, and make sure that you’ve leveled up your Capture Power as much as possible. I’d recommend a minimum of level 4.

Breeding for Wumpo Botan in Palworld

If you wish to avoid the boss fight and you’d rather not trespass, then breeding for the Wumpo Botan may be for you. Make sure you’ve got a Breeding Pen ready and that you’ve got the ingredients for a Cake before you start to save time. Don’t make the Cake beforehand in case it perishes before you can use it (tip: pressing “sort” in your inventory resets the rot timers for food items, although this may be patched later).

Many combinations can make a Wumpo Botan, so I’ve listed the easiest ones below that don’t require a Legendary or super-powerful Pal:

You should know by now where at least one of the combination’s Pals is situated, even if you don’t have them. Note that you can still check out the habitats of the Pals that you haven’t captured, just check it out in their Paldeck entry.

Assign them to a Breeding Pen and make sure that the combination you’re using is of both genders, or it won’t work. While they’re getting to “know” each other well, you can work on the Cake. Cake takes a considerable amount of time to cook, so it’ll be worth assigning a Pal with as high a Kindling level as you can.

Once they’re ready to breed, put the Cake in the box in front of the Breeding Pen. You may not find it if your Breeding Pen has been clipped into the ground. Make sure that wherever you place your Breeding Pen the box out front is accessible.

When they accept the Cake, they’ll start producing the Egg, which can then be taken to an Egg Incubator for the final stage.

It’ll soon hatch a level 1 Wumpo Botan. Congratulations!

Now that you know of every way to get Wumpo Botan onto your team, why don’t you check out the best mods?
