The HD-remake of Boulder Dash – Boulder Dash XL – should be showing up on Xbox 360 and PC sometime this March.
That’s according to a new and official Boulder Dash XL site, which notes a “Q1 2011” release date. The title is the work of a joint development team of Catnip Games (who brought Boulder Dash Rocks to the DS and PSP) and First Star Software (the game’s original 1984 creators.)
Boulder Dash is one of those games likely to get a ‘oh, yeah, I played that’ response from people who owned 8-bit systems or had a weakness for darkened Arcades, so it’ll be interesting to see if a revival with a “a hot new look” will do the trick for a newer generation of players.
150 new caves are promised, alongside 25 ‘retro caves,’ as well as Arcade, Zen, Puzzle and Time Challenge modes. Boulder Dash XL will be a digital download title, distributed through Xbox LIVE Arcade and various PC download sites.
