As soon as you hit the Sacred Archives, you’ll have to deal with crazed temple worshippers and other enemies. However, the Jailer will be the biggest thorn in your side. The image below will have the general area of the Jailer’s location.

You can beat the Jailer once you acquire the Clairvoyance ability. Don’t worry, you won’t miss it as it’s part of the story. But if you don’t have this ability yet, you can still slow him down. So if you keep on attacking, parring, and dodging him, you can overcome the Jailer easily. However, he has a heavy attack that you must block, otherwise he’ll send you to the Depths over and over again until you get past him.

This part took me a rather long time to beat because I couldn’t understand that I needed to not let him hit me with his heavy attack

Tips for beating the Jailer

Since you can take him down with the Clairvoyance ability, you may think you should outright avoid him till you have it. You’re half right. I did opt to run away, and that kept me safe. However, if you’re braver than me, you can take him head-on.

For players who want to avoid the Jailer, look for the large circle around him. He can’t see you, but he can hear you. So if you are in the circle, he’ll hear you and start attacking. You can defend yourself — just make sure you dodge his heavy attack. When you run away during a chase, he will go after you. So the best thing to do is to keep on running till you get to the new section.

For the courageous souls who want to attack him, you can as if he’s any other enemy. When you get enough hits in, he’ll fall into a prone position. That’s when you use the Clairvoyance ability to get more hits in. He’ll recover, and when he does, just rinse and repeat the steps above to knock him down again.
