Buckshot Roulette is a short horror game that takes the classic Russian Roulette formula and gives it a lethal twist. Several streamers have been playing the game on TikTok and other social media platforms, but many people want to try the game out personally.
Thankfully, it’s really easy to download and play Buckshot Roulette. There isn’t a console port and the game isn’t available on mobile devices, so you’ll have to play this one on PC. The system requirements are incredibly low, however, and the price of entry is next to nothing. If you want to get started with Buckshot Roulette, here’s what you need to do.
How to Play Buckshot Roulette on PC
Since Buckshot Roulette is a PC exclusive, you’ll need to buy and download it via Steam, or on its original storefront, itch.io. The two versions of the game have some differences, which are highlighted further in this guide.
People who follow the indie game scene are already familiar with itch.io, but if you’ve never heard of it, it’s a distribution platform for the most unique indie games. Some games are free, others are paid, and some games let you pay what you want for them.
To get Buckshot Roulette through itch.io, visit the itch.io page and purchase it like you would any other game. You’ll then be able to download a DRM-free version of the game for either Windows or Linux. You can download it as many times as you want and share the files with your friends if you want, so it’s well worth the asking price.
Buckshot Roulette Steam and itch.io differences
Once the itch.io release catches up to v1.2 on April 18, the only major differences between the itch.io and Steam versions of Buckshot Roulette are achievements and the online leaderboard. However, multiplayer and other upcoming features using Steam tools will stay exclusive to the Steam version in future updates.
To keep on top of all upcoming content, we recommend picking up the Steam version of Buckshot Roulette. That being said, there’s zero chance that you will ever lose your DRM-free copy from itch.io, unlike Only Up, which got pulled from Steam.
Is Buckshot Roulette Free?
No, Buckshot Roulette is not free. The game costs $2.99 through Steam and will cost the same amount on Itch.io once the v1.2 update launches on April 18. If you want to support the developer, you can even pay more through itch.io to show your support. That’s not necessary at all though, so don’t feel pressured.
Even though Buckshot Roulette is a very short game, the price is more than worth it. It’s one of the coolest indie games we’ve seen in quite some time. It even works well on Steam Deck for when you feel like a cozy game of Russian Roulette tucked up in bed.
