Minthara can be a Baldur’s Gate 3 companion if you can believe it, and we’re here to tell you what her best build is.
If you’ve decided to recruit Minthara and get on her good side, you’ll need to know how to create a good Paladin build. Here are some tips to making Minthara an amazing party member.
Baldur’s Gate 3: Best Minthara companion Paladin build
Although the Oathbreaker Paladin subclass is a fun one, I’d recommend having Minthara as an Oath of Vengeance Paladin. If you can manage to have Minthara keep this Oath without breaking it, here’s the best Minthara companion build in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Best Minthara Ability Scores
A Paladin’s main Ability Scores are both Strength and Charisma. Minthara will use Strength when in melee combat, but Charisma when spellcasting. I’d recommend also keeping Constitution pretty high so she has enough health to stay alive. The other three Ability Scores aren’t as vital.
Ability | Score |
---|---|
Strength | 17 (+2) |
Dexterity | 10 |
Constitution | 14 |
Intelligence | 8 |
Wisdom | 8 |
Charisma | 16 (+1) |

When building Minthara, I had in mind that I wanted to balance out her melee and spellcasting abilities. You can do this with the Feats chosen, which were Great Weapon Master and War Caster. Many of her Paladin spells require Concentration, so War Caster is super helpful. Also, Great Weapon Master will come in handy anytime Minthara kills an enemy, giving her an extra attack.
I also chose the Great Weapon Fighting Style, since two-handed weapons are the best. This also increases your chances of dealing higher damage with each attack.

Best spells for Minthara in Baldur’s Gate 3
Paladins have quite a few incredible spells they can use when they’re not using melee attacks. The majority of them require Concentration, so you won’t be using too many during each fight. But if you’re having a tough time choosing the best of the best, here are the best spells Minthara should use.
- Level 1
- Shield of Faith
- Cure Wounds
- Searing Smite
- Thunderous Smite
- Level 2
- Magic Weapon
- Aid
- Branding Smite
- Misty Step
- Level 3
- Warden of Vitality
- Blinding Smite
- Revivify
- Haste
Shield of Faith is great for giving allies bonus AC, while Cure Wounds is your typical healing spell. I also like Searing Smite for extra Fire damage, and Thunderous Smite for the chance to knock your target Prone.
Magic Weapon simply adds a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls, and Aid not only heals but increases max HP. Branding Smite can deal Radiant damage, but it’ll also prevent enemies from turning invisible. Misty Step is an Oath of Vengeance spell that allows Minthara to teleport to another spot she can see.
Warden of Vitality casts an aura allowing Minthara to repeatedly restore HP to allies as a Bonus Action while it’s active. Then there’s Blinding Smite, which has the chance to blind your enemies. Revivify is crucial for tough boss fights when your party members start dying. Finally, Haste is another Oath spell that can increase AC, give you Advantage on DEX saves, double your movement speed, and give you an extra action!
