Heading off: Todd Hollenshead leaves id Software

id Software president Todd Hollenshead has left the company.

Hollenshead worked at id as CEO from 1996 to 2009, when Zenimax’s acquisition of the company led to his title changing to president. As such, he’s pretty much been head honcho over there since, ooh, probably around the time the first Quake launched.

id has been in a spot of bother lately, with Rage not quite being the triumph everyone hoped for and Doom 4 reportedly running into troubles during development. The last title the company released was Doom 3: BFG Edition, which remastered the infamously dark shooter with better graphics, extra levels, and made the game’s art design visible by teaching the protagonist how to mount a flashlight to his armour.

Sounds like he handed in his resignation rather than getting kicked out, at least. A statement given to IGN by Bethesda reads: “After many years with the studio, Todd Hollenshead decided to leave id Software to pursue other personal interests.

“While Todd was not part of the development teams, he was an integral part of id Software’s success as the business head of the studio and we wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”

So, disappointingly, no tales of lobbed plant pots and shouting matches, if PR statements are to be believed. Oh well.

Tim has been playing PC games for longer than he's willing to admit. He's written for a number of publications, but has been with PC Invasion - in all its various incarnations - for over a decade. When not writing about games, Tim can occasionally be found speedrunning terrible ones, making people angry in Dota 2, or playing something obscure and random. He's also weirdly proud of his status as (probably) the Isle of Man's only professional games journalist.
