At the end of last week Beamdog pulled the Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition from their site citing “a number of contractual issues”. Beamdog’s Trent Ostner went on to say that the team were demoralised by the action and their work on revamping the Baldur’s Gate series had come to an abrupt halt.
When the story broke Beamdog were reluctant to reveal who was behind the legal action, but talking to Game Informer today, Ostner has confirmed that it’s Atari who are the unhappy party.
“At the request of Atari legal we removed the game from sale on Beamdog and the App stores,” Oster stated. “Atari is still selling the game through their channels. We’re trying to remedy the situation and I’m hopeful we can come to an arrangement.”
How this will play out is anyone’s guess, but considering this action has been taken after the release of the first game, it’s a little odd. Whether work will continue on the Baldur’s Gate II and III revamp will depend on how this all plays out.
