To no one’s surprise, The Day Before developer FNTASTIC is shutting down

Wake me up when it's The Day Before.

In what I think is the biggest blunder in video game history, The Day Before developers, FNTASTIC, are shutting down. This has been confirmed through an official statement from FNTASTIC themselves, and honestly, I’m shocked but not surprised.

When is FNTASTIC shutting down?

We learned the news that FNTASTIC is permanently shutting down from their Twitter (or X) account. They Tweeted their official statement that they “lack the funds to continue.”

In the Tweet, FNTASTIC goes into detail about how The Day Before has “failed financially” which doesn’t come as a surprise. If you were following the news online, you’d know that The Day Before, while highly anticipated, was, for lack of a better word, a scam. It over-promised and under-delivered wasn’t the game that FNTASTIC marketed, and robbed people of their money.

FNTASTIC was operational for eight years and worked on The Day Before for five years. Now, they lack the funds to continue. While closing, they are using their income to “pay off debts” to their partners.

Part of me is sad; I don’t want to point and laugh at a group of developers while they are down. But, a larger part of me is upset at FNTASTIC for scamming players. The developers have had scam written all over them, and I need someone to make a video essay dissecting it all. Ultimately, I hope players get refunds and FNTASTIC doesn’t keep anybody’s money, but sadly, I know FNTASTIC probably made out with some funds.

Is The Day Before shutting down?

If, for some reason, you’re still playing The Day Before, FNTASTIC’s official statement says, “The future of The Day Before and Propnight is unknown, but the servers will remain operational.” For how long the servers will be up, we don’t know.

As humorous as this is, (especially because The Day Before was live for like, what, five days?) it’s also sad for the people who were excited about a good-looking game and possibly got scammed. Sadly, companies like FNTASTIC can get away with things like this, but I think they are hurting from it in their own way.
