With the latest Patch 5 of Baldur’s Gate 3, we now have a ton of new and exciting content, like Honor and Custom mode. But what are these modes, and how do they work?
Just like your usual difficulty options, these are two new options available to you for your Baldur’s Gate 3 playthrough. Here’s what they do and why you may be interested in playing them.
What is Honor and Custom mode in BG3?
Not only does Patch 5 include a new epilogue and other quality-of-life updates, but two incredibly enticing game modes. If you’re looking to get back into Baldur’s Gate 3, you should try out the new Honor and Custom modes, which I’ve explained in further detail below.
Honor mode
In this mode, you’re stuck with one save file. Not only that, but the intensity increases during combat, even more than Tactician mode. Larian Studios also introduced over 30 new tweaks to all of the boss fights, which is exciting for re-playability.
Just like in Dungeons and Dragons 5e, it now introduces Legendary Actions, which bosses can now perform. Any D&D fan knows what these are, they’re basically devastating actions bosses can perform at any point during a round.

Custom mode
Anyone who loves being a dungeon master will find Custom mode to be exciting. In this mode, you get a ton of new customization options to play around with. Tweak settings such as enemy aggression, character power, and much more.
Just like Honor mode, this will probably get many players back into a new playthrough for an entirely different experience. You can make your game as easy as you’d like, or just as tough as Honor mode. Check out all the options for yourself once you update your Baldur’s Gate 3 game!
