Genshin Impact: How to beat the Hydro Tulpa world boss

The Hydro Tulpa is a world boss in Genshin Impact introduced in Version 4.2. This intimidating beast may seem scary at first, but you can defeat it easily by knowing what exactly it does. Here’s our Genshin Impact guide on the Hydro Tupla boss.

Genshin Impact: Where to find the Hydro Tulpa

The Hydro Tulpa is a new world boss unlocked in Version 4.2 of Genshin Impact. If you’re like me and thought this boss was located in the new areas of Fontaine introduced in the update, you’d also be incorrect. The Hydro Tulpa is located in an underground cavern west of the Court of Fontaine. Getting to this boss can actually be a bit confusing, so follow this route:

First, swim out to this location:

If you submerge downwards, you should see this large opening, pictured here:

Now, simply follow the path until you reach this luminescent water barrier. Swimming through it will lead you to the underground cavern where the boss is located. There’s a snazzy Teleport Waypoint there too, so be sure to activate it so you can quickly access the boss.

Hydro Tulpa Genshin Impact boss guide

This world boss does not actually have any special mechanics to be aware of, but rather general attacks. The most difficult part of this fight is probably the Half-Tulpa monsters the boss periodically spawns throughout the fight. I found these enemies to be more of an annoyance, as they go down incredibly quickly if you bring the right team. These enemies are equipped with a tiny Hydro shield that will go down quickly to Cryo or Dendro attacks.

Note: This boss is permanently infused with Hydro, the same way a Hydro slime is. As a result, all Hydro attacks performed on this boss will not work. The boss is completely immune to Hydro attacks, so be sure to avoid bringing Hydro units on your team save for a healer, like Barbara or Sangonomiya Kokomi.

The attacks this boss performs, otherwise, are fairly telegraphed and easy to dodge. The boss wields numerous weapons made out of water and performs different and unique attacks. This boss can toss spears at your location, swing forward with a strong Hydro slash, or swing a water hammer toward your location. One move to look out for is where the Hydro Tulpa creates three spears around the stage, each striking down and dealing heavy Hydro damage.

Recommended Characters

As stated, the Hydro Tulpa is permanently infused with Hydro, so your new Hydro units (including Furina, sadly) are completely useless here. Instead, you’ll want to bring Cryo or Dendro units to quickly dispatch this boss. While Pyro and Electro units are also effective, Cryo and Dendro are extremely efficient at destroying the mini Hydro Tulpas the boss spawns, making them a moot challenge.

Alhaitham / Collei / Fischl / Kuki Shinobu is a strong team at dispatching this boss. Collei and Alhaitham deal high Dendro damage by creating Dendro cores, and Fischl and Kuki Shinobu will create the Hyperbloom reaction and deal high single-target damage. Wriothesley / Shenhe / Xiangling / Bennett is another strong team.
