How to fix Purchase Failed Error Code Chastise in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (MW3)

Do I need to buy MW3 Vault Edition again?

Among the ever-growing list of errors players are experiencing with the Modern Warfare 3 campaign, some players are experiencing crashes and re-pre-order messages along with the Chastise error code. Here’s what’s happening and how to fix it.

How to fix MW3 crash and repurchase Chastise error code

I’ve encountered countless Twitter/X posts and Reddit threads of people either not being able to play Modern Warfare 3 or playing through a few missions only for it to crash. In both cases, these players are asked to repurchase Modern Warfare 3 even though they already own it and installed it and this is commonly associated with the Chastise error code.

This crash and repurchase error is happening to a lot of Modern Warfare 3 players regardless of platform and edition. I’ve seen this issue occur on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation and on the standard edition as well as the Vault Edition. As with some of the other MW3 errors floating around. No one is safe.

In my research, I’ve yet to find a substantial fix. So far, all I’ve found are players cataloging their error which is always the same in this case: can’t even start or get through a few missions and experience a crash and then you can’t log back into MW3 because it says you don’t own it.

Verify files and reinstall MW3

The only fixes I can think of are to verify your game files and possibly delete and redownload the MW3 campaign.

First, verify your game files by going to MW3 in your library and accessing its external settings. There, you can verify the game files which allows your device to scan and fix corrupted files. Reinstalling MW3 might also solve this crash and pre-order error since it could force the game to interpret the action as the player getting the game for the first time.

Wait for Activision to fix the error

Truthfully, there is no fix to this strange error. The best thing you can do is keep an eye on Call of Duty Updates on Twitter/X to see if/when they identify the issue and patch it. Call of Duty Updates is the official spot for all issues, fixes, and patches, so this is the best place to get notified about a fix to this crashing and re-pre-order request MW3 error.

If you lost stats, operators, levels, bundles, COD Points, and the ability to play the MW3 campaign like a few people (for example, Inevitable-Nerve-585 on Reddit) are experiencing, hopefully, Activision will reverse whatever caused this and everything will go back to normal. Whenever an issue arises that messes with CoD Points, Activision usually takes it very seriously which is a good sign that it will get reversed.
