Alan Wake 2: Should you investigate the Previously Flooded Area
During the Return 3 chapter, while playing as Saga Anderson, you will meet Alan Wake and Alex Casey. After interacting with them, you will be given an optional task to investigate the previously flooded area in Cauldron Lake. You will have the option to reject this side mission. I would advise you not to do so, since you’ll miss out on a lot of useful rewards.
When you first reach Cauldron Lake, some parts of the area stay flooded, which makes it inaccessible for you. However, later in the game, the flood will recede, giving you the chance to investigate the area. Investigating this area would most definitely be a really good choice for you as the area is filled with Alex Casey Lunchboxes, Manuscripts, Cult Stashes, Nursery Rhymes, and many more puzzles that can be a good source for you to earn resources and useful items.

How to Investigate the Previously Flooded Area in Alan Wake 2
After starting with the optional mission, make your way to the Witchfinders Station on the northwestern side of Cauldron Lake. Once you reach this location, head upstairs and investigate two documents that you will find on the table inside a room. Now, make your way back to the parking lot and meet Alex Casey to complete the optional task.
The optional task might be a small one; however, the area is filled with puzzles. You can solve these puzzles to earn a lot of resources and weapons. Explore the entire previously flooded area, and you will come across a lot of manuscripts, Alex Casey Lunch Boxes, Nursery Rhymes, etc. Collect the collectible or solve all the puzzles around this location to rip the most out of this area.
