Ubisoft reveals next Anno will be set in 2070

This article is over 13 years old and may contain outdated information

The latest in the strategic city-building and economy-balancing Anno series will be getting a near(ish) future twist.
Once again, it’ll be developed by Related Designs/Blue Byte, but Anno 2070 will be stepping out of its historical comfort zone. Publisher Ubisoft has outlined some of those oh-so-popular ‘features,’ and promises “massive cities … the scope of which has never been seen in prior Anno games.”
More interesting than that, the resources of the future will be limited, so “decisions will have an impact on the environment, the architectural look of their world, and the needs of their populations.” To complement that, players can choose to side either with the ruthlessly efficient capitalist Tycoon faction, or the more hippy-tastic Ecos.
Anno 2070 will have a story-driven single player campaign, as well as a single player “endless mode.” Some “innovative online modes” are also mentioned, but not really expanded upon at this stage. The game also has no release date at present.
Anno 1404 went down very well here at IncGamers, so hopefully the series can continue to offer thoughtful strategy action.
Have a look at some bloom-tastic screenshots from the new one, below.
