The virtual reality train keeps on rumbling on, as the Virtuix Omni project raises its $150,000 USD Kickstarter goal in full within one day. In fact, at the time of writing its at almost double that figure and shows no signs of slowing down just yet.
Designed to work in conjunction with the Oculus Rift headset, the Omni provides a kind of treadmill for players to walk around on that will concurrently move their characters in-game. You can get the general idea from the Skyrim video posted below. It’s said to compatible with any game or app that accepts keyboard inputs (so, uh, pretty much all of them, then.)
Units aren’t especially cheap, but you can get in on the first wave of Virtuixes (Virtuixi?) for $250 USD. You can also learn a whole lot more about how the project functions at the main Kickstarter page.
