How to escape space combat in Starfield

Sometimes bailing out isn't a bad idea.

One of my favorite things to do in Starfield is engage with the enemy in space. I feel like I’m an X-Wing fighter from Star Wars by weaving around and dodging incoming attacks. Stuff like that gets the heart pumping. Bethesda Softworks has honed in the feel of navigating and fighting with your ship in the dark void that is space. Everything the developer has done regarding ships feels super immersive.  That has made me do less fast travel because I get to spend more time with my ship. On the other hand, no matter what, there will always be threats. Even if you have the powerful Star Eagle ship, you’ll still face issues. When things get too hot, you can quickly zip out of combat a few ways. The method below is probably the best, fastest, and safest way to escape space combat in Starfield. It could save your life and time.

Starfield: How to escape space combat

Regardless if you already have the Pilot skill, knowing how to escape is something to keep in mind. First and foremost make sure your ship has a Grav Drive. This makes it possible for a ship to enter hyperspace in mid-combat or whenever you fast-travel. When you do this, ensure that you exit into another system you’ve been to, otherwise it won’t work. Another important thing to take away is that you can’t jump within the same system you’re in.

To make your jump as quick as possible and to not take much damage, place most of your power in the shields, Grav Drive, and engines as one Reddtior recommends. This way, incoming fire will blocked, and you’ll have less time needed to power up.

A mistake that I made was not checking if my Grav Drive was damaged badly or disabled, if it is, you won’t be able to jump. This can be done by repairing the ship, however, when in combat, try to repair it as fast as you can. If you don’t you may become a sitting duck.
