How to complete the Supra Et Ultra mission in Starfield

Probationary mission.

In Starfield, there’s a main story to follow. If you stop there, you’re missing out on some of the best experiences the game offers. You can join factions to see many more stories. One of those factions is UC Vanguard, which kicks things off with a probationary mission.

How to complete the Supra Et Ultra mission

When you decide to join the UC Vanguard faction, you’ll need to complete a variety of tasks to stick the landing. Check our guide on how to join UC Vanguard for some of the broader details. The first step along that path is the Supra Et Ultra mission. To complete the Supra Et Ultra mission, you complete your education and basic space combat training.

UC Vanguard registration

To initiate the Supra Et Ultra mission, talk to Commander John Tuala in the UC Vanguard building. You’ll find it along the edge of the MAST District in New Atlantis. Tuala, usually available behind the desk, gives you a pitch. If you accept his invitation to sign up for UC Vanguard, the mission begins.

First, proceed to the Vanguard exam. You will find it in the Orientation Hall, nearby. Make sure to activate the mission if the beacon is leading you elsewhere. I sometimes forget to do that when I start a new mission. When the beacon works as it should, it leads you to an elevator you can ride down to the Orientation Hall.

As you enter the hall, check with the Vanguard Registration terminal. You will need to accept the Enlistment Agreement. Then you should proceed through the adjoining Orientation Hall. Here, it’s possible to activate different pedestals that piece together the history of the United Colonies and early activity in space. Reading everything can take some time, but it’s quite informative.

When you’re ready, proceed to the Vanguard exam. To do so, reach the elevator at the far end of the winding corridor, which leads to the Vanguard Pilot Simulator.

Ride the elevator to the upper floor. Then follow the corridor along the upper platform to meet with Exam Proctor Samuelson. He outlines what you need to do to pass the test, which is mandatory. Essentially, you must survive three rounds of space combat.

Space combat and an oath

To survive the three rounds of combat, focus on advanced techniques. Make sure you have good engine speed and that your shields are properly equipped. You must designate where you would like to spend the available blue bars of energy. Once you have dedicated resources appropriately, it’s time to focus on survival. Try to take down one ship at a time. Aim for whichever ship is closest, and let your targeting indicator fill. Once it does, press the button or key indicated to enter a slow-motion mode where you can inflict more damage in short order. This also gives your enemies less time to harm you.

Once you complete three or more rounds, talk to the proctor again. He reviews your performance and sends you back upstairs. Follow the mission beacons and take the elevator to meet with Commander Tuala once again in the top-floor lobby. Confirm that you are ready to join and he will take you outside to swear your oath. The Supra Et Ultra mission completes. As a reward, you receive 250 XP and 3000 credits. The related Grunt Work mission also activates. You still have some work to do in order to receive your uniform.
