How to beat Fezzerk in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)

Not quite tilting at windmills.

Many encounters in Baldur’s Gate 3 have the potential to end badly. Most characters would rather fight than explore peaceful solutions, and the group of hostile sorts includes Fezzerk. Just in case you wind up having to fight the surly fellow, here is our guide on how to beat Fezzerk in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3 – how to beat Fezzerk

When you encounter Fezzerk, he is hanging out near the northwest side of the Blighted Village area. You find that, along with his cohorts, he has tied a gnome named Barcus Wroot to a windmill. The nasty Fezzerk is having fun laughing at the hapless gnome as the windmill carries him in dizzying circles. Getting near to the event kicks off the Rescue the Gnome side quest. Then you get to decide how to possibly fulfill the terms of that quest. To beat Fezzerk, attack him and focus your attacks on Fezzerk himself.

Fezzerk is a tough opponent. He can put up quite a fight with assistance from two Worgs and numerous other lackeys. If you try to take out every enemy involved in the fight, they’ll likely overwhelm you. Instead, direct any attacks you can toward Fezzerk. You won’t need to eliminate him to beat him. Just lower his HP to five or so.

When you first arrive in the Blighted Village ahead of the fight, you likely don’t have especially strong characters. They are probably around level two or three, and so is Fezzerk. If you show no mercy, you can acquire the Very Heavy Greataxe. You can instead let him live after you beat him.

If you would prefer not to fight Fezzerk at all, you can also talk your way out of a scrap. Check out our guide on how to stop the windmill and free the gnome for advice on that approach. It’s the one I took my first time around, with my Bard. If your levels are low and your equipment weak, it may be the option for you.
