After seeing Baldur’s Gate 3‘s massive success of over 800,000 Steam players in three days, many people excited for Starfield are beginning to speculate if Starfield will get as popular as Baldur’s Gate 3. Both games have been in development for many years, promise hours of exciting gameplay, and are backed by studios that have made some of the best games ever made. So, will Satrfield be as successful as Baldur’s Gate 3?

How popular will Starfield be? Discussion
Of course, we don’t have a concrete answer to how popular or successful Starfield will be until the game comes out on September 6. However, that doesn’t stop us, or Reddit users, from having that discussion.
In the Starfield subreddit, Jealous_Advance9765 started a discussion centered on hoping Starfield is as successful as Baldur’s Gate 3. With 460 comments (and more to come), what surprised me most is that the most upvoted comments are those highlighting how great of a year for gaming it has been and will be. User dogdiarrhea has 367 upvotes for their reply, “Great year for gaming :).”
That really took me by surprise! From all my experience observing gaming communities, the norm that I’ve encountered — especially on Reddit — is negativity, hate, and toxicity. But dogdiarrhea’s comment about 2023 being a great year for games wasn’t the only one.
I’d say the next 100 or more comments center on positivity, mentioning how we’ve been blessed with great games this year. Games like Hogwarts Legacy, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Dead Space Remake, Remnant 2, Dead Island 2, Hi-Fi Rush, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Dave the Diver, and more. Plus, games like Spider-Man 2, Armored Core 6, and Mortal Kombat 1 were listed as games people are anxiously anticipating.
Scroll a little further, and the discussion about Starfield‘s success begins to kick off. Every comment has a different opinion, with standouts being lemonprincess23 predicting that Starfield will be reviewed positively and people will like it for the first week and then a popular YouTuber will dunk on the game and the public perception will diminish. Icewill36 says, “Starfield will get some hate no matter how good it is,” and that PlayStation stans are gonna buy Xbox just to play Starfield, which was confirmed true by a few commentors.
What do you think? Personally, I want Starfield to be good considering how life-changing Bethesda games in the past have been for me. I predict Starfield will be messy at launch, but continue to be refined into an exceptional game. I could be wrong. As Jealous_Advance9765 says, “Only time will tell.”
The Starfield subreddit is an exciting place filled with people looking forward to playing the game — I recommend you check it out and/or join in on the conversations. It’s a fun way to follow a game and get excited about its release.
