Baldur’s Gate 3 lets you create a magnificent hero (or a less heroic type, if you’re so inclined). From there, you will lead them on an adventure encompassing dozens of hours of play. There are a lot of details you’ll want to get just right, and one of those details is your character’s name. By default, the name is chosen for you. Here is our guide telling you how to change your name in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Baldur’s Gate 3 – how to change your name
Not every hero can have a suitable name, but it’s not a bad idea to try for one. In some RPGs, you can change your name on a whim, or by using a rare item. This is not one of those games. To change your name in Baldur’s Gate 3, you have to take advantage of some of the options available when first creating your character at the start of the game.
During the player creation process, you’ll navigate several menus that allow you to adjust everything from your character’s origin, to their race and class, to their appearance. When you are making your choices, select the Background tab that by default lists a background. In my case, it was ‘Entertainer.’ Then click on Edit Appearance and make any changes that suit you. When you’re happy with how your character appears, click Proceed and you’ll bring up a dialog box that offers the opportunity to rename your character.
By default, your character has the name ‘Tav’ (or at least, mine did). You can change it to something that better matches your vision, and you have a lot of characters and room with which to work. Once you make the change you like, click Proceed again to lock in that selection.
While it is not possible to change your character’s name after the initial creation process at launch, subsequent updates might always add the feature. For now, though, make sure you’re happy with your choice before you begin your adventure. Otherwise, you can always go with a different name the next time you begin a campaign.
