With the transition from Early Access to its full release, Baldur’s Gate 3 fans are wondering what they have to do to prepare. While Larian Studios has confirmed that your old save files won’t carry over, it seems as though your PC may save some of your files still. The developers have urged players to delete their old saves, for good reasons. How you can find your save location and delete the save files in Baldur’s Gate 3 is in the game itself, or through File Explorer on your PC.

First off, let’s discuss why every Early Access player should do this. In a recent tweet, Larian Studios shared this information. Some of your old saves may appear, but you should not try to attempt to play an old save with the fully-released version. This is because there will be conflicts between the two versions. Even if you’re starting a brand new game, it advises everyone to delete all save files.

There are two different ways to go about this. The easiest way to delete your Baldur’s Gate 3 save files is through the game itself.

  1. Go to Baldur’s Gate 3 main menu
  2. Select ‘Load Game’
  3. Go to your character’s name for all your campaign’s saves
  4. Select ‘Delete Save’ and say yes to the pop-up

The other way to do this is through the game’s files on your PC. Although Larian Studios recommends you do it the easier way, this is also viable.

  1. Search for ‘%appdata%’ on your Windows taskbar and open the file
  2. Leave the ‘Roaming’ file and go into your ‘AppData’ file right before it
  3. Go into ‘Local’, then ‘Larian Studios’
  4. Delete the ‘Baldur’s Gate 3‘ file entirely
  5. Uninstall your Early Access version

The one thing to note is that you should disable cloud sync when you’re installing the full version of Baldur’s Gate 3. This is because your saves are probably still in the cloud, and you don’t want them to download into your game. If you want to bring back cloud saves, make a new save in Baldur’s Gate 3, leave your game, then turn cloud saves back on. Otherwise, you should be fine, and any malfunctions or glitches should be minor.
