Cross-play is an essential aspect of online multiplayer games—it lets you play with your friends even if you’re on a different platform. Overwatch 2 supports this feature. However, on the PC, you can’t tell whether cross-play is available or active. In this article, we’ll discuss how to enable cross-play on Overwatch 2 PC.
Overwatch 2 cross-play on PC explained
Overwatch 2’s cross-play feature is enabled by default. Even if you see that you’re in the PC pool when queueing up your matches, it will still include console players in a party with PC players. You can instantly invite your friends on different platforms if they have cross-play enabled without having to do anything on your end besides adding them on Battle.net.
How to add your friends in Overwatch 2 PC
- Open Overwatch 2.
- Go to the Social Tab, which is beside your username.
- Click Add Friend.
- Enter your friend’s Battletag in the space provided. If your friend doesn’t know their Battletag, ask them to hover their pointer over their username.
- Invite them to your party, and cross-play will automatically be enabled.

Then again, while cross-play is a lot of fun, there are huge disadvantages to them in Overwatch 2. For example, your friend on the console may be at a massive disadvantage with cross-play is enabled. This is because your friend will likely be playing on a controller, and everyone, including your enemies, may have a mouse and keyboard setup. Playing on a mouse and keyboard gives players a better reaction time, like with turning, flicking, aiming skills, etc.
Another disadvantage for your friend on console is that the game automatically disables aim assist if you decide to queue with them for competitive play. Other game modes like unranked, arcade, and mystery heroes will enable aim assist for controllers. We highly recommend staying away from competitive play if you want a great experience while cross-playing with your friends in Overwatch 2.
