Sometimes, it’s difficult to find a handful of friends who want the same things from a gaming session. That’s especially true across multiple gatherings. Some players might want a shooter. Others may prefer something strategic, like a base builder or an RTS. There’s no quicker way for a promising meetup to fall apart than to begin it with a half-hour argument over what to play. Happily, Asym Altered Axis offers a solution without compromise.
Asym Altered Axis was developed by MIXI. In the West, players know the studio for its compelling Monster Strike mobile game. That title has remained a top-grossing game since its release in Japan a decade ago. MIXI is big on multi-player experiences and blended genres. Asym Altered Axis, the team’s first game designed specifically for the PC gaming space, brings those two qualities together in a big way.
Asym Altered Axis offers two distinct modes to keep six players busy at once. One player, assuming the role of the Protector, creates a base using an intuitive interface to manage towers and other fortifications. That effort produces a dangerous environment to house a precious resource known as cells. Once the base comes together, a team of five Infiltrator players raid it for loot. To claim their prize, they must also escape.
As play progresses, the base’s creator floats overhead, bombarding invaders and making any necessary adjustments. When Infiltrators fall, the Protector gains new resources to further enhance the base. This makes the raid more challenging by ratcheting up its complexity. Players can directly damage and temporarily disable the busy Protector, turning the tide of battle in an instant. When not directly engaged, team members must move stealthily to avoid detection. Communication is vital in order to overcome the mighty Protector.
Players anxious to get their hands on the unconventional Asym Altered Axis can play it during the Steam Stealth Fest running from July 24 – July 31, 2023. A demo was also released on July 20, enabling you to get your first taste of the crowd-pleasing experience right now.
