One of the most compelling features of Baldur’s Gate 3 is the array of romance candidates available to you. No matter if you’re playing a custom character, a companion character, or possibly The Dark Urge, you can build a romance with another companion or side character. There are quite a few romance options in Baldur’s Gate 3, so let’s go over all of them.
Baldur’s Gate 3: All romance character options
Astarion
He’s everyone’s favorite vampire spawn, and the Rogue of the party. Astarion is one of the early members you recruit, just after you crash-land the Mind Flayer ship. He’s a high elf turned vampire, and is quite witty, but can also be prickly. Get on his good side, and you may be able to romance him. He’s a tough nut to crack though, as even what seems to be the correct dialogue option will make him annoyed.
Shadowheart
Shadowheart is probably the first character you’ll meet in Baldur’s Gate 3. She’s the party’s healer, since she’s quite the talented half-elf Cleric. At first, you’re just trying to survive together, but stick with her and she’ll begin to open up more. There are some things Shadowheart is hiding, which she’ll be stubborn about. But the closer you get, the more comfortable she becomes around you.
Lae’zel
Although a complicated relationship at first, Lae’zel is one of the available romance options. She’s a very skilled Fighter, and a githyanki, which creates some tension in the party. Her kind despises Mind Flayers, as they were once enslaved by them, and despite this, isn’t well loved by everyone. Characters like Shadowheart don’t fully trust githyanki, but once you get to know Lae’zel, she has a warm heart under that cold exterior.
Wyll
A little further into Act One, you’ll meet Wyll, who will join your band of adventurers. He’s a human Warlock monster hunter, and like all Warlocks, he made a pact with a devil. Despite him wanting to rescue the seductive being that gave him those powers, Wyll wants to end the bargain. Like all your companions, you can start a romance with the heroic and kind Wyll.
Gale
The other human you’ll recruit during Baldur’s Gate 3 is Gale, who also wields magic, but is instead a Wizard. You’ll meet him even later in Act One, and he isn’t hard to get along with. Although, it doesn’t take long before you realize his ambitions could lead him, and others, to death. Gale asks that you help him figure out how to get rid of a destructive orb that resides within him, and along the way, you may fall in love with him.
Karlach
Despite Karlach not being a companion in Early Access, she’ll be able to join your party in the full release. This tiefling Barbarian was forced to fight in the Blood War, but is now living in Faerun. Karlach is a strong fighter, but also fun to be around. Gale’s not the only one with something destructive inside them, as Karlach could also explode at any moment, with a bomb for a heart. Although, this may lead to a bomb romance between you and her. See what I did there?
Halsin
Once you meet Halsin, you may fall head-over-heels for this powerful Druid. You’ll first find this elf imprisoned during a quest, and once you free him, he’ll be on your side. Halsin doesn’t seem to be a companion just yet, but we now know you can romance him ever since the Release Showcase demonstrated a beary, sorry, I mean very interesting romance scene. I wouldn’t make this man your enemy, as he’s pretty strong and can help you out during tough fights.
Minthra
This romance option isn’t as well known, but it’s still possible. If you decide to take a turn to the bad side during the ‘Rescuing the Druid Halsin’ quest, you can get on her good side. Minthra is one of the three goblin leaders, and is a drow Paladin. You can decide to betray Zevlor and help Minthra and the goblins raid the Druid Grove. It seems the way to her heart is by slaughtering her enemies.
