Halls of Torment presents a hellish labyrinth, which you will explore as several brave warriors. Along the way, you find gold coins you can use to upgrade abilities, and eventually to purchase gear that stays with you even if you fall in battle. Gold is a precious resource, and this guide tells you some of the best ways to farm gold in Halls of Torment.
Halls of Torment – best ways to farm gold
When you begin playing Halls of Torment, your only option is to explore the dungeons as the brave Swordsman. You can slowly break apart crates and such to find the occasional gold coin, but you’re not going to accrue much wealth until you gain an additional character. In the early game, the best way to farm gold is to use the Archer, until you unlock additional blessings.
As early as possible, unlock the Archer by surviving four minutes in Haunted Caverns. This useful character fires arrows, allowing you to pick off weak enemies in the initial Haunted Caverns area. You want to make long runs, since you earn the most gold by defeating mid-boss enemies that appear in later waves. Also break apart any barrels and crates you come across. They sometimes drop a few coins at a time.
While you explore, work to complete any pending quests. A lot of them you’ll clear automatically, just by playing well. Once the initial ones are out of the way, check the Quests stone in the hub area (just to the right of the campfire) to find additional quests. As you clear each quest, you receive gold as a reward (see the above screenshot).
Continue exploring and you will soon unlock the Ember Grounds region. In that region, you can rescue the wellkeeper to keep items permanently. Don’t spend too much gold buying gear yet, but some of it. Focus on pieces that improve the archer’s efficiency. My preferred item is the Collar of Confidence, which improves damage dealt within the pickup range, up to 50%. It pairs well with the Longfinger Gloves. In a run, I start by improving range and speed. That lets me tear through enemies fairly easily. The idea is to build the archer until you can defeat Elite enemies. Defeat 50 of those enemies and clear the Elite Slayer 1 quest to unlock the Gold Gain blessing.
Once you have access to the Gold Gain blessing, immediately upgrade it to its maximum. The Gold Gain blessing ensures you earn the most gold possible on every run. I like to stick to the Haunted Caverns area, since it’s easier to make it to the later stages and get a lot of gold on a run. Don’t spend much time in later dungeons until you’ve upgraded your loadout and possibly accessed additional characters.
As you defeat more powerful enemies and purchase new gear and upgrades, you’ll survive to reach later waves and clear some of the more challenging quests that may reward you thousands of gold at a time.
Halls of Torment is available to purchase on Steam.
