Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 is shaping up to be quite a fantastic game. This Dungeons & Dragons video game RPG will take you on a wild story with hundreds of choice-based decision making. The Early Access version has been available for quite some time, but now with its full release, Baldur’s Gate 3 is quite a large game. So the real question is if you can play Baldur’s Gate 3 on your Steam Deck, which we’ll answer for you below.
Is Baldur’s Gate 3 compatible with Steam Deck?
According to Valve’s verifying system, the answer to if you can play Baldur’s Gate 3 on your Steam Deck is yes, as it’s ‘Playable’. And luckily, Larian Studios aims to have Baldur’s Gate 3 as ‘Verified’ once it leaves Early Access on August 3. What does this all mean exactly? Well, Valve has four different levels of verification for Steam games on the Steam Deck. While Baldur’s Gate 3 in Early Access is considered ‘Playable’, by launch it’ll be fully ‘Verified’.
At the second tier, Valve hasn’t full fully optimized the game for the Steam Deck, but it’s still okay to play. ‘Playable’ means you’ll probably have to tweak with the settings to make it run to your liking. This could be button remapping, resolution switching, and more.
The two other levels are ‘Unsupported’, then ‘Unknown’. If it were ‘Unsupported’, that just means Valve doesn’t recommend you play it, but it still should be fine. ‘Unknown’ simply means they haven’t checked over that game yet.
In a Community Update posted on July 31, Larian Studios explained that Baldur’s Gate 3 looks rad on the Steam Deck. If you’re reading this past August 3, it probably already Verified the game, and you should be good to go. It’ll even work on the most optimal settings, so you don’t have to worry about the Steam Deck struggling to run it. The post also stated that there is full controller support, and split screen will turn off, if you want to play this co-op.
