How to complete The Way of the Three Quest in Diablo 4

Three cheers to open the gates of hell.

There are many enigmatic side quests in Diablo 4 that reward cool lore snippets to players that go out of their way to find them. One of the most obscure is the ‘Way of the Three’ quest, which challenges players to activate several alters across Kehjistan. This task is tough, so let me show you how to complete the Way of the Three Quest in Diablo 4.

Before you can even activate the quest, you have to track down three statues. Once you find each one, you need to use your ‘Cheer’ emote in front of it. Doing so lights a brazier, and these correspond to a flame that must be lit on the Alter next to the Imperial Library. You can cheer in front of these statues in any order, but this is the way I did it.

The closest Waypoint to the first Statue is Denshar in the Kehjistan region. Ride northwest until you reach the area on the map above.

Once you’re standing where I am in the image above, use the ‘Cheer’ Emote, and the eyes of the Statue will glow bright blue.

Our second target is a short horse ride west. You’ll need to dismount your horse to get here. Make sure you defeat any nearby enemies, as they’ll interrupt you when you try to emote. I’ve marked the location of the Statue in the picture above.

Cheer in front of the Statue, and the hands of the effigy will burst into flames. Next, let’s check out the final Statue.

Our final target is in the Alter of Ruin Stronghold. You can’t just sneak in and activate the Statue, as it’s hidden behind a locked door. Fortunately, this is one of the easier Strongholds, and once you’ve beaten it, you can enter the area in the picture above.

Cheer before the Statue, and their hand will be set ablaze. With all three activated, you can fast-travel back to the Imperial Library Waypoint.

Before you leave this area, an Alter of Lilith is up for grabs if you’ve not activated it yet. You can find it by following the short trail east of the Altar doors.

With every Statue activated, head to the location in the picture above. Interact with the quest marker on the ground, and a ‘Mysterious Gateway’ will open. Considering all the hassle, there’s not much inside the Portal besides a short battle with a few groups of mobs. Damage the Communing Pillar to start the fight, and once everything is dead, you’ll complete the quest. The Stronghold you conquered to get here is much harder than the fight inside the Portal, so this should be quite easy.

The quest rewards you with a rare Chest Armor called the Hellfire Hauberk. Sadly, it’s unremarkable and unlikely to be better than the gear you already wear.
