How to get Chocobo mount in Final Fantasy 16

Ride like the wind, Chocobo! Here's how to get your very own Chocobo mount in Final Fantasy 16.

Chocobo mounts are a stable of Final Fantasy games, and, unsurprisingly, you can get your very own Chocobo mount in Final Fantasy 16. While Final Fantasy 16 does have its linear parts, later in the game, you get side quests and access to open areas. To make completing side quests and navigating terrain easier in Final Fantasy 16, here is how to unlock the Chocobo mount.

Final Fantasy 16: How to unlock Chocobo mount

To unlock the Chocobo in Final Fantasy 16, you need to get to the time-skip part of the story. This happens after around 15 to 20 hours, so try to enjoy the game without the Chocobo and look forward to unlocking it as you progress further.

After you get a main quest called “The Gathering Storm,” you’ll be taken to an area called Martha’s Rest. Here, you’ll get a new side quest called “The White-Winged Wonder” from Rowan who is found at the southeast end of the village next to a Chocobo. He also has a green plus symbol above his head which indicates that completing this quest unlocks a new feature. You’ll want to watch out for these quests and complete them when you find them.

You can miss the one side quest that gets you a Chocobo, but if you have missed it, just return to Martha’s Rest, talk to Rowan, and complete “The White-Winged Wonder.”

How to complete “The White-Winged Wonder” in Final Fantasy 16

To complete this quest, you need to travel south and pick up signs of the white Chocobo, like the white feather and the bodies of bandits. You’ll eventually hit a cutscene where poachers are cornering the Chocobo and you’ll need to fight them all off.

Be sure to equip the best abilities to take on these enemies. After the poachers and the axe-wielding huntsman is dispatched, you’ll get another cutscene that signals the end of the quest in which you unlock the Chocobo mount called Ambrosia.

How to summon the Chocobo mount in Final Fantasy 16

After completing “The White-Winged Wonder” you can call your Chocobo to you whenever you want. To do so, hold down R3. The Chocobo will appear and you can mount it by pressing X near it. To ride Ambrosia, look at the controls on the right side of the screen.
