How to complete Poisoned Hearts quest in Diablo 4

Mother, I'm so sorry...

Many of the greatest tales in Diablo 4 are told away from the main story in the form of side quests. One rather harrowing story is told through the Heretic Questline, ending with Poisoned Hearts. In this guide, I’ll explain how to complete the Poisoned Hearts quest in Diablo 4. If you’ve run into an error while tackling this mission, I’ll hopefully be able to help you as well.

Before we start, I’ve read numerous reports on Reddit that Poisoned Hearts is bugged for some players.  With this in mind, I recommend following these steps during the quest:

  • Stay within quest boundaries at all times.
  • Don’t start or join in any nearby World Events.
  • Don’t chase Treasure Goblins unless you can defeat them within quest boundaries.
  • Complete the quest in a single session.
  • Don’t trigger any Shrines.

  • Considering the above issues, I recommend keeping your route through the quest as direct as possible. First, you need to find Aneta. She’s in a small alcove on the map called Gulyas’ Hovel to the Northwest of the quest boundary. Interact with the three Braziers surrounding Aneta to progress the story.
  • Aneta will follow you from here. Take her to the highlighted area on the map and travel through it on foot. Aneta will stop to gather materials, so stay with her while she does.
  • Once Aneta has collected her items, head to the Hidden Glade. When you reach the marker inside, you need to kill enemies within the red circle to fill up the bar under the map.
  • After the story concludes in the Hidden Glade, walk back to the entrance and exit the area. Then, walk across the swamp to Aneta’s marker and talk with her. If the quest is working correctly, this should prompt your final task.
  • To finish Poisoned Hearts, travel back to Gulyas’ Hovel. Speak with Gulya, interact with the book, and you’ll complete Poisoned Hearts.

Aneta is stuck at the end of the quest. Any tips?

I had a bug-free experience with Poisoned Hearts, but here’s what’s reportedly worked for some players:

  • Stand by Aneta for roughly 15mins. There are reports of players being able to interact with Aneta after a prolonged period AFK.
  • Wait for someone else to finish the quest. Try and talk with Aneta after this, but you’re at the mercy of other players showing up.
  • Mark the location on your map and complete another quest before trying to talk to Aneta again.

Hopefully, these solutions help, and most reports I’ve read say that waiting for a prolonged period has worked for them. During your journey through the Heretic Questline, you will have stumbled into the Blind Burrows, the home of the Aspect of the Tempest. Check out our guide on the area if you decide to go back.
