Diablo 4: Primary Resources explained
Have you ever noticed that a certain Aspect or affix does something with your Primary Resource? Some affixes will help you if your Primary Resource is full, while others will help regenerate it. The game won’t outright tell you what this is, so it may leave you confused. In Diablo 4, what Primary Resources are has to do with your character’s class and how they spend their Core Skills.
Besides your health, you’ll probably be monitoring your Primary Resource most. Certain skills will require you to spend something, such as Mana for Sorcerers, or Energy for Rogues. Primary Resource is the general term for this, since each class uses something different to channel their powers. Necromancers, on the other hand, use Essence for their Primary Resource and Corpses for their Secondary Resource, which is unique to their class.
- Sorcerer: Mana
- Barbarian: Fury
- Necromancer: Essence and Corpses
- Druid: Spirit
- Rogue: Energy
When looking at certain buffs or Aspects, you should have at least one that connects with your Primary Resource. For example, one of my Aspects can help me deal more damage depending on how much Mana I have. There are even some items with affixes or Aspects that affect your Resource Generation. For another example, if my Sorcerer casts Basic Skills, the cost of my next Core Skill is lowered.
Since you can run out of your Primary Resource fast in Diablo 4, it’s important to have some items with affixes pertaining to your Primary Resource. This way, you don’t have to worry about running out of it during the heat of battle, and you can use it wisely.
