Tears of the Kingdom – how to complete the Feathered Fugitives side quest

The Cucco is one of my favorite returning elements from the Zelda series. They appeared in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, when you could slash them with your sword a few times to produce an angry flock of fowl. Since then, they have made regular appearances. Now, there’s a side quest where they have disappeared. You can meet with Teli at Riverside Stable after you rescue him and his friends from a cooking experiment gone wrong in the nearby forest surrounding Batrea Lake. At the stable, he asks you to help find five scattered Cuccos.

To find the five missing birds and complete the Feathered Fugitives side quest, look carefully in and around the stables. The birds haven’t gone far at all. It should be a quick search. However, they’re surprisingly good at hiding.

You can find the birds in any order that suits you.

  • Head around the stable from where you met with Teli to find the Stable Trotters musicians playing their music. The bird is nearby.
  • Check inside the stable tent near the back wall.

  • Look on top of the stable. You have to climb to its highest level. Use the Ascend ability to reach the highest point.
  • Check in the tree near the stand of construction parts, close to the stable. The bird is in the lowest branches, easy to grab.
  • Near where you find the construction parts, look at the rock in the water. A Cucco waits on it. You can’t just throw the bird back to shore. It sinks into the water. To reach it, either freeze the water with an item or elemental weapon and make a path to cross, or grab some nearby planks. Attach them to each other using the Ultrahand ability to make a bridge. Then you can get the bird across.

When you return to the pen with a bird raised over your head, press the button indicated to throw it. Once you return all five missing birds, talk to Teli to complete the Feathered Fugitives side quest. He rewards you with a Silver Rupee.
