The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, much like Breath of the Wild before it, features a slew of weapons that seem to have been fashioned from glass. A few direct hits are enough to make them break and then you have to find something new. Or do you? This guide tells you how to repair weapons and shields in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Tears of the Kingdom – how to repair weapons and shields
If you’re good at fusing weapons and hoarding supplies, you can always have a decent weapon available. Just defeat an enemy that is carrying something decent and then fuse it with a monster horn or whatever. But sometimes, you find great weapons you want to keep around for a long while. That’s when you need to take extra steps.
To repair weapons and shields, find the nearest Rock Octorok. This special variety of enemy can restore a weapon that is about to break to its original condition. I’ve used their (free) service many times to keep my favorite weapons in play. Make sure not to have a sage summoned while you perform this trick, or they may kill the Rock Octorok. That would be bad.
You encounter Rock Octoroks in the northern portions of Hyrule, near Death Mountain. The map screenshot above shows most of the locations where I’ve found the creature, indicated by yellow star icons. I have set up a Travel Medallion on the Eldin’s Flank hillside between two sets of two of the Rock Octoroks. That way, I can make a quick run to repair three or four weapons at once.
During a single encounter with a particular Rock Octorok, it will repair only one piece of equipment. When you get near one, let it spot you and fire a flaming ball your way. Dodge the attack and then quickly drop the weapon or shield you want repaired within easy range. The Rock Octorok will inhale deeply and swallow the equipment. After a moment, glowing sparkles appear. Then the enemy spits your weapon back at you.
I usually let the Rock Octorok fire at me once because otherwise, I’ve set a weapon down nearby and it hit the weapon with its projectile. That sent my precious gear flying off to the side. If you have trouble finding a weapon the Rock Octorok has ‘returned,’ use the Ultrahand ability to highlight nearby items you can grab. Your repaired weapon should be among them.
