The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has a lot of deep mechanics playing out in the background, and you might get through the whole game without noticing some of them. If something is even remotely remarkable, though, there are probably a few missions or resources that build on it. Here is our guide outlining how to get and use Star Fragments in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Tears of the Kingdom – how to get and use Star Fragments
As you roam Hyrule at night, you’ll sometimes see a star drop along the distant skyline. You can travel on foot to find it where it lands and acquire the Star Fragment, a rare and valuable item. If you try to warp to a nearer point, the fragment will simply vanish. Once you get a Star Fragment by finding a fallen star that landed on the ground, you can use it to enhance your armor, attach it to a weapon, or sell it to a merchant.
Strictly speaking, there is no way to farm Star Fragments. However, it’s easy enough to get a couple of Star Fragments in a single evening. My favored approach is to launch from a Skyview Tower shortly after night arrives and then drop until I am right near the base of any cloud coverage. Then I glide forward. A star often falls right near me, in that case. The ‘twinkling’ sound lets me know it is about to pass near me. As it does, I dive through the air and catch it before it even hits the ground. Then I warp to another Skyview Tower and repeat the process.
I suggest you set aside as many Star Fragments as possible for upgrading equipment. For instance, one of the best uses for Star Fragments is to enhance most armor you might acquire using an amiibo or by visiting remote ruins. These include the Awakening armor set and the Hero of Time set. Upgrading that armor is a reasonable priority. You’ll need dozens of Star Fragments for that purpose.
You can also attach Star Fragments to weapons and shields. They might work best affixed to a shield. They give off a nice glow even if you are just walking around with a fused shield resting on your back. When you are exploring the Depths, every little bit of light helps. Attached to a melee weapon, they function as a flashlight of sorts. They’re rare enough that I don’t recommend ever fusing them with an arrow, though.
Finally, you can also sell Star Fragments to merchants. Those merchants will pay 200 rupees for each one. This is useful if you have a bunch of them in your inventory and you have already upgraded your armor sets. If you don’t find it difficult to get the fragments, you might enjoy selling them. Until then, it’s best to use Star Fragments in one of the other ways described.
