The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has many points of interest, but some of them don’t call attention to themselves. You can walk right by them without realizing that you’ve missed something special, unless you take a closer look. Here is our guide on how to access the useful shrine in Akkala Citadel Ruins in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Tears of the Kingdom – how to access the shrine in Akkala Citadel Ruins
One of the more valuable destinations in the game is Domizuin Shrine, located in the Akkala Citadel Ruins. Once you have activated it, you can use it as a fast travel point to reach a variety of nearby attractions. You’ll probably want to come back several times.
To reach Domizuin Shrine, ascend the mountain on which the Akkala Citadel Ruins rest. I like to climb up the mountain by starting at South Akkala Stable, just to the northwest. You can fast travel to reach that stable using Mayachideg Shrine.
From the stable, head southeast to reach the base of a high slope. Even from its base, you should be able to see the stone citadel towering at the top. To reach that massive structure, climb straight up the mountain (provided you have a reasonable amount of stamina). Partway through your ascent, you will likely come to a trail winding its way up the mountain.
Be careful along that trail. There is a Bokoblin roaming nearby. It can hurl lethal lightning bolts your way. If you face that monster, don’t try to outrun it; a head-on attack is best. I prefer to avoid it altogether by continuing my ascent without letting it notice me. At the top of the hill, past some Sticky Frogs, you’ll reach the ruins. Skirt their base, working your way south. You should see Domizuin Shrine out in the open, ready to activate. Check the above screenshot to see a map of its location.
The phantom menace
Be very careful in this area. There are some Gloom Hands near the northeast portion of the citadel. For more information on a fight of that type, see our guide on how to get the Gloom Sword. The Phantom Ganon you battle in this area is armed with a long spear.
When possible, I like to attack those foes from atop a high wall near the center of the area. I fuse Bomb Flowers with Arrows to blast away their life meters before dropping down to engage with melee weapons.
There is a nearby chest you can open for the Royal Guard’s Spear, but I don’t suggest grabbing it until you have dealt with the nearby enemy. When the way is clear, also check the local area for caves.
