Fireproof Elixir recipe in Tears of the Kingdom (TotK)

Not all fired up.

In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll need to venture into the scorching heat of a volcano. It’s the sort of environment that makes wooden weapons burst into flame, so you know it can’t be good for Link’s skin. But there are ways to counteract that effect. Here is our guide sharing the Fireproof Elixir recipe in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Tears of the Kingdom – Fireproof Elixir recipe

Around the time you find yourself needing to visit the Fire Temple and some northern portions of the Depths, you’re going to have concerns about long-term survivability. One obvious solution is to buy the Flamebreaker armor set (for more info, check out our guide on how to get the Flamebreaker Armor). However, you really need at least two pieces. And boy, they are really expensive, despite the shopkeeper’s assurances to the contrary.

The solution is to mix up a few batches of Fireproof Elixir. It can make you impervious to the heat for minutes at a time, allowing you to explore hostile territory. To make the Fireproof Elixir, you need to combine a monster part with either Fireproof Lizard or Smotherwing Butterfly.

As it happens, you can find the Fireproof Lizard somewhat common throughout the Eldin Canyon region. It clings to the side of canyon walls and scurries away (rather slowly, for a lizard) when you get near. I had little difficulty catching a few of them as I explored the region, without even really trying.

The Smotherwing Butterfly presents more of a challenge. I tend to find it on higher elevations near the slopes of Death Mountain. Ideally, you’ll move close to one and then assume a crouch so you can sneak up on it (that, or consume a potion or wear armor that improves your stealth rating).

For monster parts, a variety of different components can work. I like to use Bokoblin Guts or Octo Balloon, since they’re relatively common. Once you have the necessary ingredients, mix them in the nearest available pot over an open flame and make yourself some potions.
