Thyplo Ruins is a small location located at the northern edge of Hyrule in Tears of the Kingdom. The main draw here is the Thyplo Ruins Skyview Tower. But it’s obvious to see that there’s something else going on with this island. In fact, there are four short puzzles you can solve which get you a very cool reward. So, here’s how you solve the puzzles at Thyplo Ruins in Tears of the Kingdom.
Tears of the Kingdom: Solving the Thyplo Ruins puzzles
The puzzles in Thyplo Ruins come as part of the “Investigate the Thyplo Ruins” side quest. To start this properly, you’ll need to have finished the Water Temple, Fire Temple, Wind Temple, and Lightning Temple. Once those are done, head over to Thyplo Ruins to start solving some puzzles. Check the map below for Thyplo Ruins’ location.
Once the main Dungeons are finished, head to the Thyplo Ruins and speak to Kazul. He’s part of the Zonai Survey Team and needs some help investigating the ruins. He’ll then show you four stone tablets that have a short riddle. These tablets each give you a hint about a location in the ruins followed up by the Sage ability you’ll need to use. Let’s go through each tablet from left to right.
“Display the power of the Sage of Wind to the Owl protected by many dragons”
The solution to the first puzzle lies right behind the stone tablets and just over the wall. You’ll see a large owl statue with several dragon heads laying on the ground in front of it. All you need to do is use the Sage of Wind’s Gust ability in front of the owl statue. Then loot the chest that appears.
“Display the power of the Sage of Fire to blaze through the space between two dragons, from head to tail”
For the next one, head to the eastern section of the island and look for two long dragon statues with a big gap between them. For this one, you just need to use the Sage of Fire’s ability and launch him directly between the two dragons. Afterward a chest will appear behind Link.
“Display the power of the Sage of Water in the presence of the six dragons”
The third puzzle is directing you to the northwest of Thyplo Ruins. Here there are six dragon statues arranged in a circle with a gap in the middle. Simply use the Water Sage’s ability in this gap and you’ll unlock this chest.
“Display the power of the Sage of Lightning at the end of the long dragon that protects the mountain of death”
This one honestly took me an annoying amount of time to find. Luckily you don’t have to repeat my mistake. Head over to the southeastern edge of Thyplo Ruins, and you’ll spot a long dragon statue coiling around. Just follow it to the point on the map above, and you’ll come to the end of the tail. Then you just need to use the Sage of Lightning’s power in front of the statues to unlock this chest.
Once all four are done, you can go back to Kazul to report your findings. You’ll then be taken to the final location in this side quest where your reward waits. This earns you the Dusk Claymore, which Twilight Princess fans might recognize as the sword Ganondorf used. It’s a very cool reward, and it deals a lot of damage. Find out how to get the Fierce Deity armor set to maximize the amount of damage you can do.
