How to get and build your own house in Tears of the Kingdom (TotK)

Building a home.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is all about your own creativity. You can create contraptions from just about anything and turn them into just about anything as well. This is true for many aspects of the game, such as the weapon fusing. This also applies to one aspect of the game, which is home ownership. In Tears of the Kingdom’s predecessor, you could build your own house with the help of some people, but in Tears of the Kingdom, thanks to the game’s new abilities, they let you build your own house by hand. Here’s how to get and build your own house in Tears of the Kingdom.

The first step to getting your own house in Tears of the Kingdom is to head to Tarrey Town, which is the town that Link helped build in the original game. This location can be found on the east of the map, and can be seen in the map below.

After you arrive at Tarrey Town and have a look around, you’re going to want to head over to the far side of town, to the building to the left of the monorail-type contraption that’s on the direct far side of town. Here’s where you’ll meet Hudson and Rhondson. These are the people who will help you get your own house in Tears of the Kingdom.

The first thing you’re going to want to do though, is complete the quest that they give you here. Not only is it needed to get your house, but the quest that’s here also gives you a 50% discount on homes! Meaning you can get the Dream Home for 1,500 rupees instead of 3,000.

Buying the house

After you complete this small quest that features a quiz, and then a small puzzle/stealth section sneaking onto the monorail contraption, you’re going to talk to Rhondson inside the house you originally spoke to her in. From here, you can buy yourself a house in Tears of the Kingdom, if you have enough money that is. You’re going to need 1,500 rupees to be able to buy the house, which is a steep ask if you’re early on. You can use our guides on getting rupees quickly, if you’re in a bind.

Rhondson shows you where your plot of land and house will be in Tears of the Kingdom, and after she does that, it’s time to head over there. You can find a shrine nearby this location to make for easy fast travel too. Once you arrive there, you’re going to want to talk to Grantéson, who’ll give you free reign over building your house with the objects there.

To build your house in Tears of the Kingdom, you need to use Ultrahand. You can attach these blocks in any order you want, as long as they’re within the parameters of the rope. You can even build it so you can’t get into your house and it will be fine. So go wild with it. You can also talk to Grantéson to purchase more room for your house.
