The first thing to note about getting any Purah Pad upgrade is the quest prerequisites. Before you can get Robbie to upgrade your device, you need to unlock the Autobuild ability, and complete Robbie’s side quest that lets you take photos with the Camera ability. After that, fix Robbie’s hot air balloon at Lookout Landing, so he can make it back to his lab in Hateno Village. Now, how you get all Purah Pad upgrades in Tears of the Kingdom is through Hateno Village with Robbie.

Shrine Sensor

Just like your Sheikah Slate in Breath of the Wild, your Purah Pad can use Shrine Sensor to detect Shrines of Light for you. Luckily, as soon as you make it to his lab, he’ll give you this upgrade free of charge. Now, you should see a small sensor icon above the temperature gauge on the main HUD. It works just like it did in the previous game.

The Shrine Sensor will start beeping whenever you get in proximity to a Shrine. The brighter and louder it is, the closer you’re getting. Now you can go Shrine hunting with much more ease!

Sensor +

Do you want another handy Sensor on your Purah Pad? This time, if you get Sensor +, you can search for anything in your Hyrule Compendium and track it. Do you want to track a monster, creature, or material? You can do that all with Sensor +! All you need is a photo of that thing, and it will go into your Hyrule Compendium, available to track down.

If you want this upgrade, talk to Robbie at his lab and ask about the feature. He’ll set up a quest called ‘Presenting: Sensor +’, where you’re instructed to take photos of at least five different monsters. Once that’s complete, go back to Robbie to receive Sensor +.

The Travel Medallion

This special feature will allow you to set any location as a teleport point for you to return to. If you’re interested, talk to Robbie about the Travel Medallion upgrade to get the quest for it. He’ll ask that you head to his Ancient Tech Lab in Akkala and clear it out from intruders.

Once you’ve defeated the Yiga Clan members that were residing at the lab, open the chest inside and you’ll find the Travel Medallion Prototype. Take this back to Robbie, and he’ll install it for you. Also, Robbie can give you two more Travel Medallions by unveiling more map regions.

Hero’s Path

The last upgrade for your Purah Pad is called Hero’s Path. This feature allows you to analyze where you’ve trekked throughout the entire map of Hyrule for the past hundred or so hours. Hero’s Path is highly useful if you enjoy checking every point of a map, but aren’t sure where you’ve been or not.

This upgrade is pretty easy to unlock, and by the time I talked with Robbie at the lab, I already met the prerequisites for this one. All you need to do is discover at least 15 Shrines. Once that’s done, you can ask Robbie to give you this upgrade, which can be toggled on or off through your map.
