Eugen Systems, the team behind real-time strategy title RUSE, has announced a new game in that vein; Wargame: European Escalation.
Interestingly, the publisher this time will be Focus Home Interactive rather than Ubisoft. It also seems as though the team felt RUSE was too obscure as a name, so they’ve gone quite literal this time. Wargame is indeed a wargame, and one that features escalation in Europe during the period 1975-1985.
You don’t need to be a historian to know that’s during the Cold War, and as a result Wargame will be pitting NATO forces against the countries of the Warsaw Pact in a series of “what if?” battles. “Large, armored offensives” will be the main focus of this hypothetical conflict, as it assumes nuclear strikes would be the last thing anybody really wanted.
Eugen are touting a system called “IRISZOOM” that’ll allow a continuous zoom from a high, global viewpoint, right down into the heart of the battle. Much like the system seen in RUSE, I suspect.
Wargame: European Escalation will be released for the PC early in 2012. More details are expected to be announced at E3.
For now, gaze upon these two screenshots:
