How to learn Ancient Hyrulean in Tears of the Kingdom

Time to get reading!

Upon journeying across Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you may come across a bunch of things you don’t truly understand yet. Maybe you find some Bubbul Gems, which you don’t know how to use, or finding Memories and Dragon Tears out of order and trying to piece together a story you only know parts of. It’s all part of the non-linearity of Tears of the Kingdom. One example of this is the Ancient Hyrulean text you can find floating in the sky islands. Eventually, you’re able to learn how to read Ancient Hyrulean text. So here’s our guide on how to learn Ancient Hyrulean in Tears of the Kingdom.

How to learn Ancient Hyrulean in Tears of the Kingdom

The first step to learning Ancient Hyrulean is to complete some of the main story. You’re going to need to complete two of the four regional phenomena in the quest that has the same name. You can complete these in any order you want, and the ones you complete don’t matter for this side activity either.

Once you complete two of the four regional phenomena, you can now learn Ancient Hyrulean. To be able to read this ancient text, you need to head to Lookout Landing. Here, you’ll find an NPC that goes by the name Wortsworth. He’ll be investigating a massive stone object in one of the corners of Lookout Landing. He’ll talk to you for a bit, and then tell you to meet him in Kakariko Village.

Proceed to Kakariko Village. In the house across from the clothing store Enchanted, you’ll find Wortsworth. Talk to him to learn about a side activity that relates to reading Ancient Hyrulean text. The trick to reading these plaques is to bring him photos of them, so when you find them in the world, you’re going to need to grab a photo with the Camera on the Purah Pad, which you can get by completing the main quest Camera Work in the Depths.

So once you find the flower-shaped islands in the sky, and grab photos of the plaques of Ancient Hyrulean, take them to Wortsworth and he’ll translate them for you, so you can learn more about the world.
