How to summon companions in Tears of the Kingdom

The first thing you’re going to need to do to summon companions in Tears of the Kingdom is to progress in the main story. You’re going to need to progress in the Regional Phenomena questline to be able to summon companions. To be able to do this, you need to complete any one of the four regional phenomena that you need to uncover the secrets of. Once you unlock one companion, unlocking more will be done via completing more of the regional phenomena.

Once you have yourself a companion that you can summon, you’re going to want to head to the inventory menu. This can be done by pressing the + button on the controller. After doing that, you need to head to the Key Items section of the menu, which is the final menu before the settings menu. Here you should be able to see circles with icons on them, if you select these, you can summon the companion that circle corresponds to.

You can also dismiss them from this menu too, by doing the same thing. Just in case you want to hide a spoiler from a friend, want more of a challenge, or just fancy exploring Hyrule alone.

Companions can make combat a lot easier, and some of them can even make traversal easier too. So it’s worth playing around with them and seeing which ones benefit your playstyle the most in your journey across Hyrule.
