Tears Of The Kingdom Old Maps

How to find and use Old Maps in Tears of the Kingdom (TotK)

X marks the spot!

Looting treasure is one of my favorite things to do in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Whether that be by accident, on purpose, or somehow a mix of the two. Stumbling upon different armor sets is one of the best feelings in the game. A lot of treasure can be found in the Depths, which is where the Old Maps come in handy. Old Maps are things you can find around Hyrule which are very mysterious and can be a little tricky to figure out if you’re not too far into the game. Here’s our guide on how to find and use Old Maps in Tears of the Kingdom.

How to find and use Old Maps in Tears of the Kingdom

Old Maps are a bit tricky to find. You seem to find them at random throughout the world of Tears of the Kingdom, but there is some method to where you find them. You can usually find them in the sky, which means that you should keep searching the sky islands if you’re looking for them. They’re usually in a chest, and I have personally found 10 of them in the sky just searching around. There’s even been one I got from the back of a Flux Construct.

Basically, your trick to finding Old Maps is to just look for chests while on the sky islands. Some of them are tricky to find and can be hanging off the bottom or sides of things. So just keep searching for one, and you should find one eventually.

How to use Old Maps

Using Old Maps in Tears of the Kingdom is extremely easy, you don’t have to do anything! The only thing you need to do to use them is unlock the Depths, which can be done at any point in the game. All you need to do is head down one of the chasms, and you should be there. I recommend talking to Robbie at Lookout Landing however if you haven’t done his quest which opens the Depths, it’s where you get the Camera module for the Purah Pad, so it’s worth doing.

Once you arrive in the Depths, you should see a bunch of X’s marked on your map, these are the Old Maps coming into play. If you head to one of these Old Maps, you’ll find some treasure. The treasure you get can vary wildly, but the things I have found doing this have made me want to go back and find every single Old Map. So try it out for yourself!
