At the beginning of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players must burn down faraway vines to reach a chest inside In-Isa ShrineWhile Zelda veterans instinctively start searching for Fire Arrows, Tears of the Kingdom allows Link to set arrows ablaze using in creative new ways. In Tears of the Kingdom‘s second Shrine, In-Isa, you’ll be given a rackety old bow conveniently placed near a bunch of Fire Fruit. Being in a shrine entirely focused on fusing weapons,  splicing them together precisely what you need to do. Unlike swords and shields, however, arrows can be combined with items the moment before you fire them.

To launch a fire arrow from your bow, press ZR to draw back your string, then press up on the D-Pad and select the Fire Fruit. Once you’ve let go of ZR, your flaming arrow will set fire to whatever it hits. This can be used to burn down plants and wooden platforms or even set groups of enemies on fire.

Once you’re out and about exploring Hyrule, you can create flaming arrows by literally setting them on fire. Drawing your bow and positioning it toward an open fire, such as a torch, allows you to use a flame arrow without needing a Fire Fruit.

Talking from experience, be careful when using any wooden items around a fire, as direct contact will thoroughly cook them after a little while. I learned that the hard way.

While you can’t eat charred wood, you can cook Link a delicious meal using our Tears of the Kingdom cooking guide. We also have a guide on finding Captain Hoz, which you should do once you’ve landed in Hyrule for the first time.
