Like most open-world games, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has a day-and-night cycle. And it’s actually a very important part of the game. There’ll be plenty of times that a thunderstorm makes traversing a pain, or when the sunsets at the wrong time during exploration. Luckily, there is a way to change the time in the game. So, here’s a quick guide to changing the time of day in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: How to change the time of day
Thankfully, this is a much simpler process than figuring out how to use the Wing Devices throughout Hyrule. In order to change the time of day, you need to have a campfire. If you’ve played Breath of the Wild, then the rules are exactly the same here. Just drop a bundle of wood along with some flint, strike it with a sword, and you’ve got a campfire. You can also stumble onto some camps with a fire already lit. In both instances, you just need to walk up to fire and press the ‘Sit’ button. If there’s no fire in sight, you can also use stoves in kitchens like the one found in Lookout Landing to pass the time.
From a campfire or stove, you’ll get three options to choose from. “Morning” will take you to 05:00, “Noon” skips to 12:00, and “Night” brings you to 21:00. This function is very handy for a bunch of reasons. Since thunderstorms make it nearly impossible to climb and have the chance to strike Link with lightning, it’s always best to wait them out. And there are some quests that are dependent on the time of day too. So there’ll likely be a few times when you need to wait at a campfire. I constantly changed the time in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and I’ve already done it a lot in Tears of the Kingdom.
It may not be as flashy as the new Fuse ability, or vital like Ultrahand, but changing the time of day is still very useful in Tears of the Kingdom. So make sure you keep it in mind whenever you need to waste some time.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available for Nintendo Switch.
