How to complete Only a Child mission in Honkai Star Rail

The Only a Child mission takes place on Jarilo-VI, and wraps up the story of Serval and Gepard, which the main story campaign left unfinished. In order to even start the mission, you must first clear the Time Express mission.

To complete the Only a Child mission, you need to help Serval protect the Underground from an unexpected threat. She will need to work with her brother, Gepard, in order to find resolution. Before you attempt the mission, have the characters you plan to use at level 52 or higher. Plan to bring Serval, and possibly a character such as Dan Heng who uses wind-based attacks. Alternately, the Fire Trailblazer can be a useful ally. I went with Serval (having the best Serval build or something close to it will make this mission much easier), Seele, Bailu, and March 7th, who had become my favorite squad by this point.

Your first objective is to ‘meet up with the Landau siblings at the Overworld cable car.’ In case you’ve forgotten, as I did, the cable car is under the street level. You have to head around and descend to the lower level in order to find the indicated point on the map. After you meet Serval and Gepard and some discussion follows, you appear in the Underworld and should make your way to the clinic.

At the clinic, meet with Oleg and then Natasha for tense conversation. Then there is a disruption outside the building. Go outside to learn of a new threat. Then meet with Serval. This kicks off the Eternal Freeze Aftermath challenge, where you will need to defeat a few enemies at level 52.

Travel along the bridge to meet with Gepard. He heads off on his own. Ride the nearby elevator to the lower level and save a refugee from a monster mob. Next, ascend a nearby slope to follow a roundabout route to the next point indicated on the map, since barriers prevent a more direct approach. You’ll encounter enemies along the way, but they’re nothing special.

Just past a helpfully placed Sustenance Anchor, you’ll meet some miners and Gepard. Then you battle an enemy group that includes Blaze Out of Space and two Incineration Shadewalkers. Between them, they are weakest to ice and wind damage. Watch out for fire-based area attacks and be ready to heal as required. The nearby anchor means that even a loss doesn’t set you back much.

After defeating the mob, proceed through a camp. There are quite a few more enemies here, though you can mostly avoid them. Next, follow the map to reach the next point of interest, where you find Monster-Confronting Girl and Trapped Boy near another enemy mob. This group of enemies includes Ice Out of Space, which is weak against fire-based attacks. It also falls quickly to wind and quantum damage.

After you rescue the youths and have a conversation with Gepard, head forward and find Strong Miner standing near a building. Talk to him and fill him in on recent events. Then push past him and continue down the alley for the mission’s boss battle.

This fight pits you against Decaying Shadow and two Imaginary Weaver grunts. Tend quickly to the grunts and then turn your attention to their leader. She is weak to fire, lightning, and wind damage. Use as many of those elements as your party permits to burn through her shield. Keep up your health as you do, since she has some powerful attacks.

When you win the battle, an extended exchange follows. You receive your reward for completing the challenge. They consist of a 4-star Musketeer’s Wind-Hunting Shawl, Adventure Log (2), Condensed Aether (2), and Credits (4,000). The mission isn’t quite over, however.

Now you need to warp back to Boulder Town and meet with Natasha in her clinic again. Offer a brief report and then talk to the boy and girl you saved. Then leave the clinic and meet with Serval outside. Still more conversation follows and then you should warp to the Deck of Creation space anchor on the Everwinter Hill map. Here, another scene unfolds. When it concludes, you receive two Visitor Verification notices, indicating Serval and Gepard might pay visits to the Express.

You also receive Trailblaze Experience (350), Stellar Jade (60), Recipe: Disposable Kinetic Cannon, Condensed Aether (5), Shield (200), Frozen March, and Credits (25,000). It’s quite the haul. Finally, you also unlock the Serval’s Faithful: An Autobiography achievement.
