Darkest Dungeon 2, the sequel to Red Hook Studios’ smash-hit roguelike in which players plumb the depths of both haunted tombs and their own slowly dwindling sanity, has finally emerged from early access. Releasing in full on May 8 for PC, many are now enjoying its gruesome charms for themselves. Many others, however, are still on tenterhooks, waiting to see if the game will release on their platform of choice, be it the Nintendo Switch or Sony’s PS5. Is Darkest Dungeon 2 coming to PS5? Read on to find out.
Will Darkest Dungeon 2 be crawling its way onto PS5?
So far, there has been no official announcement from Red Hook Studios about Darkest Dungeon 2 coming to console. This applies to all current consoles, including Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PS4, and of course PS5. While we’ve heard nothing so far, that doesn’t mean the game won’t be coming to console at some point in the future.
While nothing’s a given, it’s safe to assume the game will be making the jump to console at some point, given the popularity of the franchise and the fact that the original Darkest Dungeon did so as well. If one were to predict a console release date for Darkest Dungeon 2 based on the timeline of the original, then they could expect the game to release for console sometime around May 2024 on average. This is based on the staggered release of the original, which launched on PC in January 2016, PS4 in September 2016, Nintendo Switch in January 2018, and Xbox One in February 2018.
While a simultaneous console release is more likely this time around, given the experience Red Hook Studios’ will have gained by porting the original game to different platforms, the advent of current-gen consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X may complicate matters. For this reason, a conservative estimate of May 2024 is our best bet so far, but stay tuned to PC Invasion for an official release date announcement when that comes through!
