Are you wondering if you can play single player in Redfall or if you are stuck playing the campaign in co-op? Two of the most outstanding video game companies, Bethesda and Arkane, have joined forces, and the result is Redfall. However, it’s understandable why fans of both companies are a bit weary. Will Bethesda fans get the open-world experience they love? Will Arkane fans get the in-depth solo player campaigns that they love? Will the two companies work together to create one cohesive experience? Here are the answers to those questions so you know if you can play single player in Redfall and what type of experience you can expect.
Can you play single player in Redfall?
Yes, you can play single player in Redfall. In fact, the campaign was built by Arkane and Bethesda to be enjoyed in both single player and co-op so that all players can experience the story however they want to. However, before we delve into the solo player capabilities of Redfall, it’s important to point out how solo player works. Whoever is the host in Redfall will get the game’s progression, and the other players who join it will not. Be aware of this if you decide to stop playing solo to play with friends.
Redfall’s Co-Creative/Studio Director Harvey Smith has stated that a considerable emphasis was given on the solo experience for Redfall, in keeping with Arkane’s passions. This means that you can enjoy an open-world experience you would expect from a Bethesda game with a fantastic campaign you have experienced from previous Arkane titles.
Unlike other titles where solo play is an afterthought, AI teammates won’t join you. Redfall is a solo experience where you determine the pace, strategy, and overall experience as you see fit. However, like other Arkane games before it, the world in Redfall will tell you stories if you take the time to hear them. To me, this is one of the most important aspects of a game. We’ve found that AI-added teammates drastically changed our experience of games because of feeling like a babysitter, and this job takes away from what we should be doing, which is experiencing the story.
