The ESG device in Demonologist is a clever bit of kit. Not only does it increase supernatural activity in an area, but it can also display the type of demon you’re dealing with. Once you set it down in a room it will raise the activity in the vicinity, and if you keep an eye on it, flash the demon up on the screen.

Clues are collected throughout Demonologist helping to identify the threat. Clues like visible breath, moving pictures, and creepy noises are all telltale signs of the different ghosts. Having the ESG device boost these different signs helps with the investigation. It really is an essential bit of kit.

You will have to ensure you have either bought one of these from the loadout screen in the safe house or picked one up from the starting area. Once you have it in your inventory make your way to a room that you feel is especially spooky. Place the ESG device in the middle of the floor and don’t take your eyes off it. The main thing this will do is boost the spooky signs in the room. Secondly, it will flash up an image of the beast for a split second, but look away and you’ll miss it.
