How to locate The Butcher in Diablo 4

Unlike Diablo, The Butcher isn’t a set location boss; he instead turns up as a random event. The best method for having him turn up is to keep resetting and running dungeons. He can appear anywhere but in the boss room in any of the locations across the map.

You will know The Butcher is on his way by the clanking of chains and growls. He can appear anytime, and spawning him is just a matter of chance. Perseverance is key.

How to beat The Butcher in Diablo 4

This guy is a beast. He can take a beating and will absolutely give as good as he gets, so be prepared. Not that you can really be prepared for a random encounter. Expect a massive health bar and attacks that pull you in and smash you to bits. Dying or taking too long after you locate The Butcher in Diablo 4 will result in him leaving the area. In this case, you just have to wait for him to grace your game again.

Moveset

The Butcher has a range of cleaver-based attacks to contend with, they are as follows:

Charge: Exactly what it says on the tin, easy enough to dodge.

Hook: He throws his cleaver and reels in any player caught by the hook.

Stomp and Headbutt: Damages the area around him.

Roar: A red ring of damage blasts out from The Butcher

Stomp and Cleave: He stomps with an area of damage and follows up with a cleave.

Basic Cleave: big swing with a big cleaver with big damage.

Tactics

It’s clear to see that the best approach to killing The Butcher in Diablo 4 is to keep your distance. This is going to be a bit of a trick for Barbarians, so make sure you have your dodge skills up to scratch. There will be a time limit, too, so don’t take too long to kill him.

There does seem to be an exploit with doorways. If you can kite The Butcher and lead him to a doorway, he struggles to get through. You can then use ranged attacks and hope he doesn’t figure it out.

Don’t go it alone. This seems to be the main thing to ensure. The Butcher has mostly been found at level 25, which is the current open beta level cap. Going head-to-head with an enemy of this level alone will be a serious challenge.

Rewards for defeating The Butcher

Of course, when you locate and beat The Butcher in Diablo 4, it delivers some pretty great rewards. Expect a whole load of gold, no less than two legendaries, and of course, The Butchers own cleaver. The cleaver slows and fears enemies by 70% on a lucky hit.
