How to get Whispering Key in Diablo 4

Blizzard’s Diablo 4 adds several new mechanics to the flagship action RPG franchise. There are new maps, dungeons, items, and ways to obtain loot. One such new item in Diablo 4 is the Whispering Key. The purpose of these keys isn’t exactly straightforward, and the items they’re used on are pretty rare. Fortunately, we know how to get whispering keys in Diablo 4.

Diablo 4 Whispering Keys – Explained

Obtaining Whispering Keys is pretty simple. All you need to do is head to one of the Purveyors of Curiosities found throughout Sanctuary and purchase a Whispering Key for 20 Murmuring Obols. In the Fractured Peaks region, there are two Purveyors of Curiosities. Here are their locations:

Completing various events throughout the world rewards you with the currency used to obtain Whispering Keys and Murmuring Obols. Red circles on the minimap mark these events when they’re active. The Radiant chests that pop up when these events complete contain between 20 and 40 Murmuring Obols. Of course, the amount of Obols you get depends on your performance during the event. Each event has a little mastery challenge for completing extra steps like defeating a certain number of enemies before a timer runs out. You won’t fail the event if you fail the mastery challenge, but completing the mastery challenge typically rewards more Obols.

How to use Whispering Keys in Diablo 4

But what are the Whispering Keys used for? They’re used to open Silent Chests, which are incredibly rare chests that spawn in the overworld. Silent Chests have little locks and chains around them, so you know they’re different from regular chests. These chests appear super rarely and often near corners and edges of the world. Additional uses for Murmuring Obols include gambling for better gear in specific slots, just like Kadala’s Blood Shards from Diablo 3:Reaper of Souls.
