Capcom has released an ARG (alternate reality game), titled Baby Eagle is Missing, to promote the launch of the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake. This serves as a foreword to the main game’s story, letting you take on the role of a government agent investigating the kidnap of ‘Baby Eagle’, otherwise known as Ashley Graham, the US president’s daughter and secondary protagonist of Resident Evil 4.
Baby Eagle is Missing: The Resident Evil 4 remake ARG
The ARG is set directly before the events of the iconic horror game, putting the player in control of a government handler who must sift through documents and other assorted clues in order to track down Ashley Graham’s kidnappers. It features a low-tech espionage vibe that matches the original game’s 2004 setting well, and essentially consists of a series of puzzles for players to solve.
These include reassembling shredded documents for location intel, hacking into one of the kidnappers’ phones, and more. By progressing through the Resident Evil 4 remake ARG, players can glean some insights into the game’s story and world, and gain a deeper understanding of the narrative catalyst that kicks off the events of the game: Ashley’s kidnapping.
It’s an interesting exercise in creative game marketing, following in the footsteps of Halo 2‘s I Love Bees ARG from 2004, and mixing in a bit of 2014’s P.T. (Playable Teaser) for good measure. While it may be a significant departure from the gameplay style of Resident Evil 4 itself, Baby Eagle is Missing will still give fans something to keep them busy before the Remake proper launches later this month.
Resident Evil 4 remake will be released on March 24. You can check out the Baby Eagle is Missing ARG for free here.
